3 benefits of showing gratitude

3 benefits of showing gratitude

I know, I know: you've heard it before. gratitude is good for your brain, helps you make friends, and boosts your happiness. but here's the thing: being grateful can be a pretty tough thing to do—especially if you're not used to doing it! So here are some tips on how to be more grateful every day.

it's good for your brain.

not only can gratitude help you to be happier, but it also has some benefits for your brain.

  • gratitude has been shown to increase positive emotions such as joy and contentment.
  • it makes you more optimistic about the future and more likely to experience a boost in energy and self-control.
  • gratitude helps you feel grateful for what you have, rather than focusing on what's missing or wanting more material possessions or other things in life (the "grass is greener" effect). this leads to increased feelings of contentment with life as it is right now -- not just in the future when we'll have everything we want at some point down the road!

it will help you make friends.

according to research from the University of California, Berkeley, gratitude is a key component of social bonding. it makes you more approachable and likable because people will see that you're grateful for who they are, rather than what they can do for you.

being grateful also helps improve your self-esteem, which in turn makes it easier for you to make friends. this is because when we feel good about ourselves, we tend to be more open with others and share our experiences with them (which allows us to learn from each other).

it can boost your happiness.

not only can gratitude help you to better cope with stress, but it can also help you feel happier overall. research shows that expressing gratitude is one of the best ways to boost your happiness levels.

the benefits of experiencing gratitude have even been identified in people who suffer from depression and anxiety disorders. this is partly because showing gratitude helps you to reframe negative situations and think positively about life events that may seem difficult or unfair at first glance (e.g., “It sucks that my mom got cancer” becomes “My mom will get through this; she’s strong!”).

gratitude is great!

  • gratitude is a great way to show people you care. the act of showing someone gratitude can help you feel closer to them, and it can also increase feelings of closeness in the relationship.
  • gratitude helps us feel happier. when we focus on the good things in our lives, rather than fixating on the bad ones, we'll be more likely to experience joy and happiness because we're focusing on what's working rather than what isn't working.
  • it can help you connect with other people. surrounding yourself with people who are grateful for what they have will make your life (and theirs) better because you'll be able to get along better and work together more easily if everyone is appreciative of their circumstances instead of always complaining about them!

gratitude is a powerful emotion, and it has the power to transform your life. by showing gratitude for what you have and who you are, you will feel happier, more connected with other people, and more motivated to do good in this world. showing gratitude can also help you cope with difficult times when things aren't going as planned or even when they're not going well at all. so next time something bad happens to us or someone says something mean? let's just say thank goodness there's more than one way out of that situation!
